Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how The Job App ("The Job App", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use the-job.app, The Job App mobile application, and related services (together, the "Service").

1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide, information created through your use of the Service, and limited technical information needed to operate and improve it.

  • Account information: your name, email address, authentication identifiers, account status, and session information.
  • Career and profile information: contact details, location, work authorization, education, employment history, skills, certifications, languages, strengths, salary preferences, and other information you add to your profile.
  • Documents: CVs, certificates, recommendations, and other files you upload, including filenames, file metadata, extracted text, and structured information derived from those files.
  • Search and application activity: job titles, keywords, locations, search preferences, saved or dismissed jobs, match results, application status, notes, employer contact details, follow-up dates, and generated application material.
  • AI interactions: prompts, chat messages, feedback, generated cover letters, checklists, profile extractions, match explanations, and related model inputs and outputs.
  • Subscription information: plan, product and subscription identifiers, purchase status, renewal status, billing period, and transaction metadata. We do not store complete payment-card details.
  • Technical and usage information: device and browser information, IP address, requested routes, timestamps, error and security logs, feature interactions, performance data, model usage, token counts, and diagnostic data.
  • Support communications: messages and any information you include when you contact us.

2. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • create and secure your account;
  • process documents and build an editable career profile;
  • find, rank, save, and organize relevant job opportunities;
  • generate and refine cover letters, CV content, checklists, and other application material;
  • provide subscriptions, enforce plan limits, and process billing;
  • operate, troubleshoot, secure, analyze, and improve the Service and its AI features;
  • respond to support, privacy, and legal requests; and
  • comply with law and protect users, the Service, and third parties.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, consent where requested, and compliance with legal obligations.

3. AI processing and job matching

The Service uses artificial intelligence to extract information from documents, suggest profile content, rank job opportunities, explain matches and gaps, and generate application material. Relevant profile, document, job, application, and chat information is sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, to produce these results. We also use PostHog's EU service for product analytics and AI observability; diagnostic records may include model inputs, outputs, and tool data needed to investigate quality, reliability, and safety.

AI results may be incomplete or incorrect. Review and edit all generated or extracted content before relying on it or sending it to an employer. Job rankings are recommendations for you; they are not hiring decisions and are not sent to employers on your behalf.

4. When we disclose information

We disclose information only as needed to provide the Service, operate our business, comply with law, or protect rights and safety. Our service providers include:

  • Clerk for authentication and account management;
  • Cloudflare for website delivery and private document storage;
  • Hetzner for application and database hosting;
  • OpenAI for the AI features described above;
  • PostHog EU for product analytics and AI observability;
  • Bright Data for job-search data sources;
  • Apple MapKit for location search and place suggestions; and
  • RevenueCat and Stripe for subscriptions, checkout, and payment processing.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to investigate fraud or security incidents, to enforce our terms, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets. We do not authorize service providers to use personal information for their own advertising.

5. Storage, local data, and international transfers

Account and Service records are stored in our hosted systems. Uploaded files are stored in private object storage. The web application also uses browser storage for your locale, onboarding progress, profile and application working data, and chat references. Authentication and analytics providers may use cookies or similar technologies. Clearing browser storage can remove local data and may sign you out.

Our providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use contractual and other safeguards intended to protect personal information transferred internationally.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain security, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal, tax, accounting, and reporting obligations. Retention depends on the type of record, why it was collected, and applicable legal requirements. Backups and logs may remain for a limited period after information is removed from active systems.

You can delete individual uploaded documents in the Service. To request account deletion or deletion of other personal information, email support@the-job.app. We may verify your identity and may retain information where law permits or requires it. Cancelling a paid subscription does not delete your account or career data.

7. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including access controls, encrypted network connections, private file storage, short-lived file access links, and authentication controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; restrict or object to processing; withdraw consent; or complain to a data protection authority. You may also update editable profile information directly in the Service.

Submit a request to support@the-job.app. We may ask for information needed to verify your identity and will respond as required by applicable law.

9. Children

The Service is intended for people who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide additional notice when required.
